Hesson-Clothiers

Materials

For authenticity  and durability, 100%  wool and 100% cotton fabrics are used.  We also welcome custom orders and will produce goods in Broadcloth, Jeancloth, and Kersey as the customer wishes.  We use 100% cotton thread as the standard.  Bone, glass, and stamped tin buttons are used.

NEW!!! We now have USN Buttons from the original manufacturer, Waterbury!!! These USN buttons will have the correct period backs and made from the original dies.

Coming soon!!! CSN buttons made from original Dies. (As soon as they find them in the basement.)

All buttonholes, eyelets and grommets are hand sewn.  We have never seen any done by machine on an original garment, so we won’t do it that way either.

    We offer two construction options:

1.     Completely machine sewn (except buttonholes).  This is our base line and listed prices start with this option.  This is completely accurate and authentic.  We have seen pictures of period Sailors sitting on the deck of a ship with a hand-cranked machine making uniforms.

2.     Machine sewn with all visible stitching (topstitching and seam felling) hand sewn.
